This vacancy may be filled at the Accountant-Auditor I or II level. Under direction, performs professional accounting and auditing work; records and reports financial transactions for the County; reviews departmental accounting records for accuracy; prepares financial reports, statements, and special financial analyses. Other related duties may be required and assigned. 1. Maintains accurate and complete complex fund and tax records and prepares necessary financial and statistical reports; 2. Reviews accounting, financial, and source documents to ensure accuracy of information and compliance with rules and regulations; determines proper handling of financial transactions; reviews, investigates, and directs the correction of or corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, transactions, documents, and reports; approves transactions within designated limits; 3. Researches, audits, and analyzes financial transactions and models to resolve questions and validate data; ensures fiscal accountability and fund integrity for all transactions, allocations, distributions, and documentation; 4. Records and approves revenues and expenses according to schedules; reconciles and resolves differences; prepares journal entries and compiles supporting documentation; transfers funds as authorized; 5. Maintains and analyzes a variety of grants, funds, tax projects and contracts; trains county department representatives on accounting policies and procedures within the functional areas of expertise; 6. Prepares and generates county payroll, audits and processes personnel action forms and payroll deductions; implements and monitors compliance with labor agreements; prepares payroll reports; 7. Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, state and federal regulations, contracts and agreements, and County procedures; 8. Prepares work papers, compliance reports and various financial reports for the county, state, federal and other agencies, and for internal auditing; 9. Organizes and maintains accurate and detailed databases, files, and records; verifies accuracy of information, researches discrepancies, and records information; 10. Provides guidance and recommendations to County clerical fiscal support staff and/or new employees; 11. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Accountant-Auditor I Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field; and one year of accounting, fiscal, or statistical recordkeeping experience. Some positions may require cost accounting or payroll experience. Accountant-Auditor II Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field; and two years of accounting, fiscal, or statistical recordkeeping experience. Some positions may require cost accounting or payroll experience. Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements: Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; ability to see; may require prolonged visual concentration; ability to hear and communicate orally; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as using a computer, typing, data entry, using calculators and/or ten-key data entry methods, or use of other office equipment or supplies.
