Wiley University is seeking an Accountant with the ability to apply accounting principles to maintenance of fiscal and accounting records. Provide the Controller information to assist with the preparation of reports and ensure that accounting transactions are accurately recorded to the general ledger.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares daily spreadsheets of both receipt and disbursement activity of restricted bank accounts.
* Prepares journal entries as directed by the Controller. The journal entries must be entered to the general ledger the day that they are prepared and approved. Ensures that supporting documentation is attached to each entry.
* Files journal entries in chronological order for restricted accounts.
* Prepares restricted bank reconciliations by the fifth working day of each month and clears reconciling items within 30 days.
* Prepares other reconciliations designated by the Controller or the Vice President for Business and Finance by the eighth (8th) of each month.
* Assists in the preparation of reports on the operation and accounting of financial aid funds.
* Represents the Business Office in financial aid registrations.
* Assists the Controller and Vice President for Business and Finance with the preparation of institutional reports and regulatory reports as required for grants and loans.
* Performs special projects as directed by the Vice President for Business and Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration is preferred. Associate degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent experience (a minimum of seven years hands-on in accounting or related field) is required
* Must possess good bookkeeping knowledge and skills.
* Demonstrated ability working with a computerized accounting and general ledger system.
* Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
* Strong organizational, planning, budgeting and managerial skills required.
* Must have excellent writing and editing skills.
* Effective oral skills and demonstrated proficiency in the English language.
* Ability to work within deadlines and use primary computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), grants software and on-line database is essential.
