Job Description:
Our client, a poverty reduction nonprofit, is seeking a Senior Grant Accountant to work with their finance team in providing operational reporting and fiscal support for several programs. This person will assist program staff with by providing the necessary information to inform financial decisions and ensure contract requirements are met. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in accounting and experience within the non-profit space. This position will be in their midtown NYC office 5 days a week during the initial training period and will then transition to a hybrid role. Responsibilities: Prepare regulatory filings, including budget modifications close outs, advances, and claims, accurately. Reconcile revenue, expenses, and receivables. Ensure the accuracy of financials relating to government grants/contracts, receivables, revenue, advances, and earned unbilled. Prepare related journal entries and reconciliations. Monitor outstanding receivable balances and follow up with funding sources to maximize cash flow. Prepare corporate budgets and other budget materials, as instructed. Assist management with report preparation by providing information relating to grant status/activity and government contracts, including monthly contract activity reports. Prepare year end corporate audits and ad hoc contract compliance audits, including gathering supporting documentation. Analyze charges to activities to facilitate the release of temporarily restricted net assets. Prepare reports requested by donors for submission. General accounting functions including account analysis and workpaper/schedule development. Make recommendations for increasing operational controls and efficiency. Requirements: Minimum Bachelors degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred. 3-5 years related experience, preferrable within nonprofit. Familiarity with government contracts, specifically for New York City and State. Strong Excel and Word skills required. Lawson Financial System experience a plus. Knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles. Good communication skills, written and oral. Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot. Strong attention to detail.
