- Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (experience may be substituted for education in exceptional circumstances)
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)and Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS)
- Skyward software experience
- Previous experience in school district finance
- Three to five years of accounting or finance experience
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Accounting and Payroll Supervisor, the Accountant is responsible for providing professional, accurate, and timely accounting services that assist in maintaining the district's accounting system and the reporting of its finances. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist with all financial accounting for the district, ensuring timely, accurate reporting and efficient processes
- Prepare, enter, and record deposits including cash receipts and accounts receivable invoices
- Review and reconcile various general ledger accounts related to subsidiary accounting functions including payroll, benefits, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Provide the necessary documentation to establish tax exempt status with vendors
- Enter various journal entries in Skyward, ensuring compliance with UFARS coding
- Enter budget revisions in Skyward as needed
- Assist with project/services contracts process to ensure proper documentation
- Assist administrators and other district staff with running financial reports in Skyward and answer questions on accounts and balances
- Assist in the preparation of the annual financial audit
- Assist with the financial accounting and reporting for federal, state, and local grants
- Enter information into the SEDRA reporting system for special education to claim state and federal special education aids
- Assist with administration of the fixed asset program for internal control and audit purposes
- Review payroll account codes and process payroll accounting adjustments when needed
- Assist with the process for obtaining bids and quotes for purchases when required
- Organize and manage a functional filing system that ensures the safe retention and efficient retrieval of office records in accordance with established state and federal laws
- Assist with the creation of W2s and 1099s
- Other duties as assigned
