Position Description
The Anoka County Property Records and Taxation Division mission is to embrace innovation to provide exceptional property tax, land records, vital records, and election services. The Property Records and Taxation Department has an opening for an Accountant to perform various complex, detailed, and technical accounting duties necessary to maintain the accounting related functions of the division.
This is a full-time, exempt position. Interviews will take place the week of January 20th, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Second interviews will be held the week of January 27th, 2025.

* 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $60,819.20 to $85,113.60 ($29.24 to $40.92 per hour).

Work Location
* This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
* Expected work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Accountant.
* Maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.
* Assist with reconciling accounts for the division; reviews, balances, and reconciles monthly accounting reports for revenues and expenditure ledgers, and trial balances for the trust and agency accounts.
* Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
* Assists with distribution of tax collections, ensuring disbursement of all taxes and special assessments to the taxing entities in the county in a timely and accurate manner as directed by statutory and accounting guidelines.
* Prepare and understand financial reports and responds to information requests received by the department from the State of Minnesota, taxing entities, private accounting firms, central accounting, other County departments, and the general public on a wide variety of property tax accounting related topics.
* Assists in the customer billing account process; compiles and prepares reports and/or gathers information for departmental and central accounting reporting.
* Perform daily reconciling and settlement of all collections, adjustments, refunds, etc. across multiple Tyler modules (Records Management, Cashiering, Enterprise Assessment and Tax, PayIt).
* Assists with maintaining the bond register along with reporting requirements; provide support in the tax calculation and truth in taxation process.
* Ensure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Consider the need for new or changed controls.
* Perform value, class, and tax adjustments; refund and/or reapply tax credits. Prepares memos, letters, correspondence, charts/graphs, and reports.
* Assists with property data system testing, issue write-up and resolution.
* Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
* Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of job-related experience.
* In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
* Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
* Possess a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) license.
* Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge.
* Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and practices.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
* Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
* Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work
* Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
* Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
* Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
