Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring financial transparency and compliance with accounting standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Financial Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all financial transactions.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts on a monthly basis.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
- Prepare regular journal entries, including payroll entry
- Financial Reporting
- Record expenditures for grants, project budgets and restricted funding.
- Maintains regular project budgets/reports, such as monthly expenditure reports.
- Support preparation of required financial reports to funders and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual audit process.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in developing and monitoring the organization's project and school based budgets.
- Provide financial data and analysis to support budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and nonprofit guidelines.
- Maintain organized financial records.
- Adhere to agency approved accounting policy and procedures and internal controls.

Requirements SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of general accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit sector
- Proficiency in accounting software programs (e.g., Financial edge).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including programming in Excel and other business programs
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
