Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Performs general clerical work supporting typical accounts receivable and/or accounts payable functions. Requires some minor decisions and use of good judgment in non-routine situations. Work is semi-repetitive in nature. Work is performed under general supervision. This position requires the ability to perform duties accurately to prevent loss and achieve deadlines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sorts and directs incoming supplier invoices. Reviews supplier statements to determine invoice status. Directs bulk sale of fare media to schools, agencies, and VIA Customer Information outlets. Performs daily cash deposit. Performs as the custodian of fare media inventory and VIAs primary Petty Cash fund. Responsible for the Student Reduced Fare Card program. Performs initial screening and classification of support documentation for accounts payable and/or receivable functions. Assists schools and agencies with information concerning fare media choices. Audits invoices for accuracy. Performs limited data entry functions in support of accounting functions. Maintains files. This job description excludes marginal functions that are incidental to performing the job. Other duties may exist. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have completed high school or the equivalent plus 6 months experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires ability to perform work requiring the knowledge of elementary accounting principles. Must be able to prepare routine correspondence reports and records. Must be proficient in the operation of computer and ten key by touch. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to perform intermediate arithmetic calculations. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Must be able to meet and deal tactfully with the public and employees and maintain effective working relationships. Must have ability to read semi-complex materials such as invoices, receiving documents, packing slips, credit memos, etc. Must be able to maintain good work attendance. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have physical ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, kneel and climb stairs, and lift objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds such as files, computer printouts, and books. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and be fully capable of utilizing calculator and computer keyboards. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves deadlines and multiple priorities.
