Description Position Summary The Accounting Clerk is responsible for performing routine accounting functions following detailed and standardized procedures to support the financial operations of the credit union. This role ensures the accurate maintenance of financial records and assists with various accounting duties to ensure the financial integrity of the organization. Essential Functions
- Financial Records Maintenance: Assist the Controller with maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union.
- Journal Entries & General Ledger: Post journal entries, reconcile select general ledger accounts daily, weekly, or monthly, and proof totals to ensure accuracy.
- Accounting Software Proficiency: Maintain a working knowledge of accounting software systems, ensuring proficiency in processing transactions, generating reports, and troubleshooting any system issues.
- Report Generation: Generate a variety of financial, statistical, and accounting reports, including statements for internal and external stakeholders as requested by management.
- Investment & Interest Processing: Process and record interest payments on the credit union's investments, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
- Accounts Payable Support: Provide backup support for accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payments.
- Wire Transfers: Prepare, review, and release wire transfers, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures.
- Reconciliation: Reconcile specific general ledger accounts, identifying and correcting discrepancies to maintain the accuracy of financial data.
- Compliance & Best Practices: Follow established financial procedures and internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Miscellaneous Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned to support the accounting department and overall operations of the credit union.
Pay and Benefits $18.62 p/hr starting There may be an increase of base pay based on skills and experience. Requirements Competencies The attributes listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- Experience: minimum of 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance. Credit union experience preferred. Bank or other financial institution experience would be acceptable. Knowledge of general ledger accounting practices.. General knowledge of credit union policies and procedures preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency with accounting software systems and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
