ACCOUNTING CLERK General Description: The position of Accounting Clerk consists of processing payment of delinquent taxes on real and personal property, process all transactions accurately and efficiently, assist customer by providing information and resolving customer complaints and providing excellent customer service. This position works under close supervision according to set procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. • Process payments by cash, check or credit cards, issue receipts, refunds or change due to customers. Balance cash drawer daily; Prepare deposit ticket or process checks electronically. • Process payment transactions promptly and accurately. • Responsible for maintaining a balanced cash drawer. • Verify refund information from Assessor and Auditor's office. • Assist title searchers, County attorney, mortgage companies and others to facilitate the collection of delinquent taxes. • Research and prepare claims for Bankruptcy court • Answer incoming calls. • Responds to inquiries from internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information, reports or provide direction for assistance • Assist other County departments as deemed necessary. • Assist in public auction at the delinquent tax sale, bidder registration, balance funds, prepares deposit ticket. • Provides professional and courteous customer service at all times to general public and staff by telephone, electronically or face to face. • Maintain delinquent sale information, files, and records for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines. • Research and prepare tax titles. • Research mortgages for properties sold at delinquent tax sale. • Advises taxpayers of appeal rights and procedures. • Work in compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, local ordinances and State and Federal law. • Maintains knowledge of current and pending legislation affecting department policies. • Operate and maintain office equipment including computers, printers, calculator, copier and fax machine. • Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires six (6) months of experience in bookkeeping, accounting or related field; or possession of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Physical Demands: Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
