About Our Organization Founded in 1968, the Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally, and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by Black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society. Job Summary Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting & Finance Coordinator will contribute to the overall success of the Museum by supporting the Finance team to achieve an accurate and efficient accounting function. This person will assist the team in meeting all organizational policy and regulatory standards and collaborating on improving finance systems and processes within the Museum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accounts Payable
- Maintain vendor records and files within the expense management database.
- Act as a point of contact for the staff and vendors regarding payment status and coding questions for expenses.
- Coordinate with credit card holders to ensure timely submission of data and receipts.
General Ledger
- Review bank activity to enter one-off transactions to facilitate the bank reconciliation process led by the Senior Staff Accountant
- Assist with recurring monthly journal entries.
- Support the month-end process to ensure books are accurate and timely reports can be produced.
- Lead the reconciliation of certain general ledger accounts.
Contributions/Accounts Receivable/Cash Receipts
- Deposit and scan checks and prepare them for the development staff to process.
- Import data from the CRM database software.
- Assist with the monthly reconciliations between Finance and Development's records.
Staff Training
- Onboard new staff on how to use any finance systems (Financial Edge, Certify, Martus, etc.)
- Help enhance financial literacy for staff, with support of the team, including facilitating trainings and creating learning materials.
General
- Collaborate with the Finance team to determine and implement more efficient systems and processes.
- Support the annual audit process, with guidance from the other Finance team members.
- Aid the team with finance-retail operations once the physical museum store is in operation.
- Assist with the Finance inbox by responding to general inquiries from the staff.
- Provide general administrative support to the department as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement, cope with change, and shift gears comfortably without losing track of the larger goal at hand.
- Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills with experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word.
- Previous exposure to an accounting software such as Financial Edge/Sage Intacct and an expense management system such as Airbase/Concur/Certify/Bill.com is a plus.
- Previous non-profit work experience is a plus.
- Dedication to furthering the Museum's mission a must.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in the field of accounting or finance.

- This position is considered a non-exempt position for purposes of federal wage and hour law, which means that you will be eligible for overtime pay for hours in excess of 40 in a given workweek.
- Fast-paced environment with varying levels of guests and employees present.

Compensation $30 - $32/hr Salary is commensurate with experience within the guidelines of a small not-for-profit.
