Job Description:
Job Overview: The Accounting Manager plays a critical role within our client's nonprofit organization, which offers free and impartial debt relief solutions to consumers struggling with credit card or other forms of debt. This position is responsible for leading the Accounting Team and overseeing daily accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), fixed assets, financial reporting, budgeting, and audits. The Accounting Manager ensures that all accounting functions adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls. Additionally, this role is instrumental in identifying, recommending, and implementing automation processes within the accounting function to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Key Responsibilities:
  • Accounting Functions: Perform and review all accounting operations, including trust and corporate accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, AR, AP, fixed assets, financial reporting, budgeting, and closing processes.
  • Automation Implementation: Identify, recommend, and implement automation within accounting and related functions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee the Accounting Team's work, ensuring adherence to GAAP and internal controls. Provide guidance on financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational reporting.
  • Tax Reporting: Prepare and manage annual tax reporting, including Form 990, Personal Property, and other relevant filings.
  • Financial Analysis: Collaborate with the Financial Data Analytics Team to prepare financial statements, budget variance analysis, financial forecasts, and other critical financial reports.
  • Audit Coordination: Coordinate and manage annual audits of the company's financial operations to ensure compliance with state requirements and statutes.
  • Disbursement Authorization: Ensure that all requests for disbursement are properly authorized according to company policies and procedures.
  • External Relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including banks, audit firms, investment managers/custodians, and financial software vendors.
  • Corporate Strategy: Assist in corporate strategy planning, execution, and results measurement, contributing to the organization's overall financial health and success.
  • Policy Development: Maintain and update organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with current accounting standards.
Requirements include:
  • Education:
    • Required: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
    • Preferred: CPA license.
  • Experience:
    • Required: 4 to 6 years of experience as a Supervisor or Manager of Accounting with demonstrated responsibility advancement.
    • Preferred: 3-plus years of experience in a leadership role in Financial Data Analytics.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in financial accounting/reporting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, Maestro).
    • Advanced proficiency in financial database software (e.g., Tableau, ProdBI).
    • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Certifications: CPA license preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
    • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.

  • Work Environment: This role is based in Orlando, FL, and may require occasional travel for audits or meetings with external partners.
  • Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
