Company

Our client is a prominent restaurant and hospitality operator based in the heart of the Fulton Market neighborhood in Chicago, about one block from the Morgan transit stop. The operation has four business units: 1) a fine dining restaurant; 2) a quick-service café; 3) a private event space, and 4) a live music club. The business is already a successful operation, with $10M in gross annual revenue, and was recently acquired by a well-capitalized private equity investor with plans for further growth. The company's CEO is a prominent Chicago hospitality veteran who formerly served as an executive with several well-known restaurant and entertainment operators.

Position

The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the daily financial, accounting, and costing activities for the company and each of its four business units. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and external accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities.
  • Monitor and report on profit & loss for each business unit and the overall enterprise.
  • Ensures the books, records, general ledger, reports and financial statements for all business units are 100% accurate.
  • Receive cash and checks and make deposits.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Assists in the negotiation of the best prices and terms with contractors, vendors and lenders on behalf of the Company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field is required; master's degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years overall accounting/finance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years accounting/finance experience in a restaurant/hospitality setting.
  • Must be self-sufficient with the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Must be able to work on-site in an office environment.
  • Self-starter comfortable working within an entrepreneurial environment, multi-tasking and assuming a strong sense of ownership over all accounting-related matters.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel is required.
