We invite you to share this journey with us.Division: Management & Non-Union (MAN010) Accounting Manager Primary Responsibilities: Oversee the daily accounting functions and manage the finance team. Manage day-to-day tasks, including general ledger (G/L) maintenance, closing procedures, and financial reporting. Maintain compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties: Team Management:
  • 1. Supervise and provide training to assigned department staff. Direct the work and job assignments of assigned staff.
  • 2. Coach, provide feedback, and complete performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • 3. Review and approve department timesheets and payroll.
  • 4. Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of finance staff. Help to foster a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Accounting and Financial Management:
    • 1. Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts, ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting systems, and closing procedures and ensure financial transactions are in accordance with GAAP.
    • 2. Ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures. Manage the activities required to timely and accurately complete all financial reporting requirements, including the preparation and review of journal entries, purchase approvals, maintenance of supporting documentation, reconciliations, and reports.
    • 3. Coordinate inter-departmental functions to ensure accurate, effective, and timely processing of transactions.
    • 4. Assist with preparing financial statements, analysis, key metrics, benchmarking tools, and other reports used to measure financial performance. Present results to stakeholders.
    Compliance, Audit, and Internal Controls:
    • 1. Assist with managing J-SOX administrative and compliance matters and internal audits.
    • 2. Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, laws, and standards.
    • 3. Assist with internal and external audit and tax activities. Direct resources to provide necessary information and schedules to support reviews, audits, tax, J-SOX, compliance, or other related activities. Ensure audit, tax, and other regulatory submissions are completed timely and accurately.
    • 4. Assist with developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
    • 5. Recommend and implement improvements to financial policies and procedures.
    Budgeting, Forecasting, and Reporting:
    • 1. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor budget variances. Analyze financial variances and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
    • 2. Assist with the preparation and development of financial forecasts and projections.
    Other Duties:
  • 1. Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Assist with updating and drafting applicable policies and procedures.
  • 2. Provide input and assist in implementing process improvements and systems in response to the changing needs of the company.
  • 3. Collaborate with other departments to develop and monitor financial performance metrics. Work closely with department heads and senior management to provide support and financial insight.
  • 4. Lead or participate in special projects related to finance, including system implementations, process improvements, or strategic initiatives.
  • 5. Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
  • 6. Attend meetings as required.
  • 7. Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Working Conditions:
    • 1. Normal office conditions
    • 2. Position is based on Hawaii Island with occasional off island travel
    Work Hours:
    • 1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet goals.
    • 2. Must be able to work weekends as required.
    • 3. Must be able to work in excess of 50 hours per week.
    Equipment Use:
    • 1. Proficient in the use of a computer and with accounting software and Microsoft office products.
    • 2. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers, telephones, and facsimile machines.
    Mental and Physical Demands:
    • 1. Ability to use good judgement in all situations.
    • 2. Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
    • 3. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
    • 4. Able to manage stressful and confrontational situations, and proactively seek solutions.
    • 5. Observant of employees in the workplace, evaluate their performance and productivity, determine areas of concern, training needs and ability to advance in the resort.
    • 6. Ability to sit for prolonged periods to perform administrative functions.
    Communication Demands:
    • 1. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • 2. Ability to communicate financial information in written and verbal format to audiences with varying levels of comprehension in accounting.
    • 3. Ability to write manual, memos, policies and procedures.
    • 4. Ability to do presentations in front of small groups.
    Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • 1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 2. Minimum four (3) years of progressive accounting experience with one (1) year supervisory experience.
  • 3. Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • 4. Hotel accounting experience preferred
