Position Overview:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Accounting Specialist to manage inventory-related accounting duties in St. Louis, MO. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate financial records, monitor inventory costs, and assist with audits while maintaining compliance with company policies and industry standards. This position demands strong analytical skills, and an innate ability to manage complex data sets. By overseeing inventory transactions, performing financial reconciliations, and collaborating with various departments, you will facilitate informed decision-making and contribute to sound financial planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile inventory accounts and ensure accurate reporting of stock levels and valuation.

  • Monitor and record inventory transactions, including purchases, transfers, and adjustments.

  • Prepare detailed reports on inventory performance and provide insights into variances or discrepancies.

  • Collaborate with the warehouse and purchasing teams to maintain alignment with inventory data.

  • Assist in conducting physical inventory counts and cycle counts, reconciling results with financial records.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to inventory accounting.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies regarding inventory management.

  • Participate in audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to inventory management systems

Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in inventory or cost accounting.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and inventory management practices.

  • Proficiency in accounting software, inventory management systems and Microsoft Excel.

  • Knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and inventory control processes

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Problem-solving abilities to address inventory discrepancies.

  • Proven experience in inventory management and accounting

  • Strong numerical aptitude and analytical mindset

  • Familiarity with accounting software and inventory management systems

  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods working with computers and documents.

  • Occasional visits to warehouses or inventory sites as needed.

Work Environment

This role operates in an office setting with occasional collaboration with warehouse teams. The environment may require occasional travel to inventory sites for audits or counts.
