Summary This position serves as an Accounting Technician in the Finance Service. The duties are performed for the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center providing medical center accounting and/or VISN accounting support responsibilities. The facility's operations also include seven community-based outpatient clinics, Veteran Canteen Service, Veteran Service Outreach Center, as well as affiliation with University of Mississippi Medical Center education programs. Responsibilities Executes projects involving interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures. In-depth knowledge of accounting, budget, or other financial management regulations, practices, procedures, and policies. Knowledge of travel regulations. Examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts and accounting data and classifies transactions. Researches, interprets, and verifies appropriation and general ledger accounts. Summarizes transactions and prepares documents reflecting the entries to be made. Determines accounts affected and the debit and credit entries to be made. Prepares reconciliations of accounts. Maintains control of funds obligated and funds expended. Prepares reconciliations of accounts, accruals, adjustments, and reports. Documents financial transactions to assure a proper audit trail. Reviews pending items and ensures follow-up action. Establishes routines for input of transactions. Ensures travel obligations are established and offset properly. Ensure timely preparation of reports for internal and external agency customers. Evaluate documentation, draw conclusions, and make sound recommendations. Prepares reports for use and review by local management. Review procedures and suggest changes. Acts as liaison between contractors, external agencies, and associates. Coordinate travel plans with a contract travel service. Uses various financial systems. Uses various software applications and web-based programs. Documents financial transactions to assure a proper audit trail. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/12/2024.
