About the Role:
The Accounts Payable Accountant will support the Fiscal Department by processing invoices, validating and managing vendor relationships. The Accounts Payable Accountant will interact with all departments and across all levels of the Company. This position will be located in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Corporate Office.
Responsibilities:
* Codes and enters invoices into the multi-company accounting system in accordance with standard procedures
* Managing vendor correspondences via email or phone, researching, troubleshooting and/or resolving issues relating to invoice discrepancies or delays internal and external inquiries concerning invoice status and responds appropriately
* Reconciling vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies via phone or email in a timely manner
* Communicate with vendors to address any payment or invoice issues in a timely manner
* Assist with month-end closing activities, including account reconciliations and accruals
* Tracks invoice status (not assigned, not approved, etc.)
* Adds new vendors to accounts payable system
* Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper approvals and supporting documentation for expenses, support audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries, identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency within the accounts payable function
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* 2-3 years of General Accounting or Accounts Payable
* General Ledger knowledge required
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payables processes
* Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to work in a self-paced environment
* Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities while juggling competing priorities
* Ability to communicate and possess interpersonal skills for interacting with vendors and internal stakeholders
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet, sorting, filtering, formula), Word (create/edit docs, entering data), & Outlook (i.e., sending emails, calendar)
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with accounting invoicing
* Perform additional accounting duties as required
* SAP Concur experience is a plus
* Sage/Intacct experience is a plus
* Perform general administrative duties such as attending meetings, report production, etc.
* Support the Accounting Department by assisting with various tasks, including generating reports, summarizing audit results, and performing other duties as assigned
* Perform backup duties for other accounting staff as designated by the Assistant Controller/VP Controller
* Ability to work in a team environment, handle multiple tasks, and manage increasing levels of responsibility
