As an Accounts Payable Specialist, you'll be an essential part of our Accounting team, contributing to the success of our organization. Location: Jackson, MS Role and Responsibilities: The Accounts Payable Specialist processes payments for general expenses incurred by the company, ensuring proper accounting for all transactions. This position aids the Cost & Budget Supervisor with daily tasks and special projects. The Accounts Payable Specialist researches historical expense activity and determines the correct account numbers used to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Receive and review check requests and invoices for proper authorization, confirm if use tax is applicable, and allocate the expenses to the proper states and/or departments as the expenses are entered into the DIS1 system.
- Assist in the preparation of the Board of Directors' notes.
- Bill State Farm Bureaus and the Casualty Company for their portion of shared expenses, requiring the Cost & Budget Specialist to have knowledge of agreements between the home office and the states, and follow up on unpaid bills.
- Pay expense billings incurred by State Sales Managers, Associate State Sales Managers, District Sales Managers, and Advanced Sales Representatives.
- Enter vouchers to be distributed to the proper department and state.
- Research and solve problems by having a working knowledge of RDS, CICS, TCBS, EXCEL, and the check filing system.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and the five-year projection.
- Assist in the preparation of state reports that are sent to senior management and to the states and analyze significant differences.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in a business-related field or three years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
- Basic skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
