Responsibilities of an Accounts Receivable & Billing Specialist:
  • Prepare and process billings: Accurately prepare and submit electronic and manual billings for Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and self-pay patients in a timely manner.
  • Review and reconcile accounts: Regularly review patient statements, census changes, and accounts to ensure accuracy; process refunds when necessary.
  • Analyze billing records: Ensure patient billing records are complete and accurate, obtaining additional information and clarification as needed.
  • Collections and follow-up: Proactively manage and follow up on patient receivables, including collection of all past-due accounts.
  • Verify insurance eligibility: Confirm primary and secondary insurance eligibility and benefits promptly and accurately to facilitate billing.
  • Resolve payment issues: Research and resolve untimely or denied payments, identifying root causes, and ensuring corrective action is taken.
  • Submit Medicaid reports: Accurately complete and submit quarterly Medicaid credit balance reports, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
  • Assist with Medicaid processes: Support patients in completing Maryland Medicaid applications and assist with Medicaid redetermination processes.
  • Communicate with stakeholders: Provide clear, empathetic communication to patients, families, and payors regarding billing issues, ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Collaborate with teams: Work closely with other accounting, billing, and administrative staff to ensure a seamless and efficient billing cycle.
Requirements of an Accounts Receivable & Billing Specialist:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare accounting.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while being detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Preferred experience with healthcare billing systems, specifically PointClickCare.
