Maxwood Furniture is a rapidly growing design, import, and distribution company with a selection of nationally renowned furniture brands. Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Receivable and Sales Tax associate to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounts receivable activities and oversee sales tax compliance via our Avalara sales tax platform. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable:

  • Prepare sales invoices and reconcile customer accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of customer payments, including cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Monitor and analyze customer account details for non-payments, delayed payments, and other irregularities.
  • Manage customer relationships and resolve billing and payment disputes.
  • Prepare and review accounts receivable aging reports and recommend actions for overdue accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records related to accounts receivable.

Sales Tax:

  • Ensure compliance with state and local sales tax regulations.
  • Monitor changes in sales tax laws and update processes and systems accordingly.
  • Review Avalara sales tax reports and work with external auditors during tax audits.
  • Maintain accurate sales tax records and documentation.

General Ledger:

  • Assist with month-end closing processes.
  • Daily bank and cash balancing, including posting related journal entries.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

We welcome all applicants and encourage those with an associate's degree or higher to apply. Relevant experience, skills, and a passion are also highly valued.

  • 3-5 years of experience in accounts receivable and sales tax management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/accounting software, Great Plains and Avalara is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sales tax regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
