The Activity Coordinator assists the Activity Director in providing group and individual activities for residents. Supports and assists with patient activities which are multi-faceted and meet the patients functional needs and interests.
Foothill Regional Medical Center is a fully accredited acute care hospital, licensed for 177 beds120 beds for general acute care, 15 intensive care beds and 42 pediatric sub-acute beds. Our pediatric sub-acute unit, just one of six in California, serves patients from throughout the state. We care for patients up to 21 years of age who need long-term sub-acute care including ventilator care and nutritional support.
- Assists with an individualized assessment to collect data to determine a course of action for treatment, which must be co-signed by Certified Rehab Therapist. Supports the treatment plan and the goals and objectives with treatment interventions to restore and improve function from the disability. Plans, leads, and engages the patient in structured therapeutic groups according to their treatment goals. Counsels and educates patients. Ensures documentation and outcomes are recorded for each group. Attends required milieu meetings.
- Supports and assists with evaluation of patients progress relative to the treatment plan, based on the changes in the interventions and patient responses. Reports changes in patient responses with treatment interventions that may affect the treatment plan.
- Assists with the development of a discharge plan, which must be co-signed by a Certified Rehab Therapist. Works collaboratively with the patient and significant others to continue treatment upon discharge. Facilitates mainstreaming the patient into the community with recommended resources.
- Ensures patient safety in all groups. Maintains accountability for equipment according to hospital policy to ensure patient safety. Ensures infection control and HIPAA compliance.
- Adheres to the Ethical Code of Conduct, providing patient services that are professional. Provides empathy, compassion, understanding, and support to patients. Demonstrates care appropriate for the age, cultural, religious, gender, or ethnic background. Engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes deliberate/thoughtful actions regarding how to best carry out interactions with the patient, families, physician, and co-workers.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in related fields such as, Art, Music, Dance, Psychology, Sociology, Kinesiology, Theater and Education from an accredited college or university
- One (1) year of previous recreation therapy experience in a psychiatric, acute care, or community setting
- AHA Basic Life Support
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years experience as a Recreational Therapist in an acute care hospital or community setting
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
