- Plan and implement engaging daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules designed to meet the diverse interests, abilities, and needs of residents, including those with dementia.
- Encourage residents to participate in group and individual activities, providing personalized support to promote inclusion and engagement.
- Organize special events, celebrations, and resident council meetings to foster a sense of community and enhance residents' overall well-being.
- Collaborate with care teams, families, and external partners to ensure activities align with residents' wellness goals and introduce meaningful programs.
- Lead, train, and support a team of activity assistants and volunteers to deliver high-quality programs and interactions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements to create a secure and supportive environment for residents.
- Adapt and refine activities to meet residents' evolving needs, promoting physical, cognitive, and emotional wellness.
- Continuously evaluate and improve activity offerings to maintain a vibrant, enriching program that enhances quality of life.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
- Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or equivalent (preferred.)
- Previous experience in long-term care or assisted living settings.
- Specialized experience in developing and facilitating activities for residents with dementia.
- Training in behavior management or strategies for engaging residents with cognitive impairments.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations, including Title 22 and infection control practices.
- Knowledge of therapeutic techniques such as art therapy, music therapy, and reminiscence therapy.
- Proficiency in using technology to create activity calendars, flyers, and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills to adapt activities for residents with varying levels of ability.
- Patience and empathy to work with individuals who may have challenging behaviors.
- Creativity and flexibility to design engaging, meaningful activities that accommodate diverse needs.
