Job Announcement: Activities Specialist - Senior Behavioral Care UnitLocation: Troy Regional Medical Center, Troy, ALTroy Regional Medical Center seeks a compassionate and motivated Activities Specialist to join our Senior Behavioral Care Unit. The Activities Specialist will play a crucial role in providing both group and individual activities to restore and maintain our patients' physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Working closely with the Activities Director and the Unit Director, this position will enhance the quality of life for our senior patients through thoughtfully designed activities programs.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and facilitate group and individual activities designed to meet senior patients' needs, abilities, and interests.
  • Document all activities conducted, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
  • Assist as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) as needed, providing personal care assistance, including bathing, grooming, nutrition, hydration, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Support clerical functions such as completing chart audits and other clerical tasks as delegated by the Unit Director.
  • Maintain patient and staff safety at all times, adhering to Troy Regional Medical Center policies and CMS/TJC guidelines.
  • Work with the Unit Director and Charge Nurse, and assist with Monitor Tech duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Social Work and Human Services, or Psychology or be actively enrolled in such program from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-year hospital experience; Geriatric Dementia or mental health experience is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • CPR certification required.
    • CPI certification required.
    • NCCAP or similar Activity Professional Certification required within 6 months of hire.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong communication skills and sensitivity to patient issues and feelings.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
