General Job Description

Performs various activities and related nonprofessional services in assisting with maintaining an organized and diversified program of individual and group activities. Comply with all applicable requirements as defined by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation Part 487 as it applies to activities

Essential Functions

  • Consistently demonstrate the core values and mission of the facility.
  • Through personal contact, encourage residents to attend and participate in community activities.
  • Assist residents as required, to and from, activity programs.
  • Distribute the monthly calendar, and update posting boards as required.
  • Maintain, develop, and display a positive attitude for encouragement of residents to
  • Participate in activity programs.
  • Announce activities using a public address system.
  • Conduct, and participate in, scheduled resident activities.
  • Accompany residents on activities as required.
  • Assist with orientation, training and duties of current and future volunteers.
  • Report all unusual or out of character observations of residents to the Resident Care Aide
  • Director, Case Manager, or Team Leader.
  • Maintain polite, sensitive, mature, cooperative relationships with residents, resident's visitors, community members, and employees.
  • Coordinate with other facility staff to insure resident's health, welfare, social, emotional, and spiritual needs are being met.
  • Be familiar with fire evacuation procedures to include fire alarm locations and routes of evacuation.
  • Display patience and respect with all residents at all times.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of high school or GED.
  • Speak, read ,and write English.
  • Be emotionally, mentally, and physically able to provide activity services.
  • Exhibit a positive, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude.
  • Must meet all pre-employment requirements including physical, TB test, drug screen, and fingerprinting.
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when warranted.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Familiar with general office equipment and computers.

Desired:

  • One Year experience working with a senior adult population and providing activities in this setting.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly speak, see, or hear.
  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, use fingers to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift, move, push, carry, or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Other Duties

  • Assume additional responsibilities as needed and directed.
