THERAPUETIC RECREATION AIDE
Reports To: Director of Therapeutic Recreation
Under the direction of the Director of Therapeutic Recreation, implement an ongoing program of activities designed to meet the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs of each individual resident on their assigned floor.
Employment is contingent on successful completion of the pre-employment screenings, criminal background check and Medicaid Exclusion screening.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must possess a high school diploma or GED and have at least 2 years experience working in an activity program in a long-term care facility.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the following:
Pre-placement physical examination
Criminal background check
2-step tuberculosis test, and
Drug and alcohol test
Must successfully complete the facility Feeding Assistant (FA) training within 90 days of hire.
Must have a clean driving record. Must drive and operate County vehicles as appropriate per job assignment.
Is subject to frequent interruptions, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Must be able and willing to relate to and work with residents at all physical and cognitive functioning levels including but not limited to ill, disabled, memory-impaired, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile residents.
Must possess a pleasant personality, emotional stability, creativity and innovation, enthusiasm, mature judgment, and willingness to cooperate with others. Must be dependable, flexible, and have the ability to copy with constantly changing situations. Must possess excellent customer service skills and leadership skills.
Must be or become proficient in the use of electronic documentation including but not limited to the CareTracker system.
Must be able to relate information concerning a residents condition.
Work as a team member to provide the highest quality of care to residents.
Familiarize self with each new admission on assigned floor and their care needs, preferences, capabilities, interests, etc. Familiarize self with related care plan goals for each resident on assigned floor. Develop a positive rapport with each resident.
Provide care and handling of facility pets.
Chaperone bus trips to various venues. Assist in getting residents on and off the bus. Assist residents while on outings.
Following the floor activity schedule; assist in planning specific daily, weekly, and monthly activities
Implement daily activity schedule.. Conduct creative, interesting, and interactive groups as assigned. Adapt activities to resident physical and cognitive functioning abilities.
Provide individualized 1:1 visits, friendly visits, etc. with residents as assigned.
Host community groups as assigned who are providing special programs.
Guide and supervise volunteers and TR interns, when applicable.
Guide residents to appropriate seats prior to activities. Assist/transport residents to and from group activities both on and off the floor.
Document daily group, 1:1, and independent resident activity participation accurately and in a timely manner.
Operate audiovisual equipment during recreational programs. This equipment may include but is not limited to the following: TV, DVD player, VHS player, CD player, tape player, surround-sound system, gaming console, MPR sound system equipment, etc.
Read all current information pertaining to the facility and field of recreation as assigned. Attend in-services and workshops as assigned.
Assist with maintenance and storage of recreational equipment and materials. Maintain neat and orderly supply cabinets. Report losses, damages, and needs to Director of Therapeutic Recreation.
Read and comply with any and all facility policies and procedures.
Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Must be able to relate information concerning a residents condition.
Works on weekends and holidays as assigned.
Assist in resident meal tray pass as assigned. Conduct Leisure Dining Program as assigned.
Answers Phone in a professional and helpful manner, Files and makes copies as required.
Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be proficient in reading and writing and understand the spoken and written word. Must be able to apply good sound nursing judgement while applying the Nurse Practice Act. Must have some computer skills. Must be able to hear with corrective or adaptive devices and see adequately with corrective eyewear. Must have simple computational skills such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division and percentages. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend at knees and waist, push and pull, turn and lift a minimum of 50lbs.
