Activity Therapist Seeking Candidates to provide activities and sports through a therapeutic lens to adolescent clients in a residential setting. This position would involve facilitating activities during afternoons and weekends. Activities would be directed towards clients, ages 11-17, who are currently receiving residential treatment for behavioral health including but not limited to self harm, aggression, suicidal ideation, substance abuse, trauma, mood instability, depression, and anxiety. Candidates would thrive in this position if they have a background in education, therapy, coaching adolescent sports, and enjoy positively intervening through activity and experiences.Salary Range: $50,000 startingShift: 5 days weekly including Saturday and Sunday
Responsibilities of an Activity Therapist:- Facilitate therapeutic activities and sports that help clients work through emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Develop and implement activity programs that align with the therapeutic goals for each client.
- Work with the clinical team to ensure activities support overall treatment plans.
- Lead afternoon and weekend activity sessions that engage clients in meaningful, goal-oriented experiences.
- Use interventions designed to improve clients' social skills, physical health, and emotional well-being through group and individual activities.
- Monitor and document client progress during activities, adjusting interventions as necessary to fit individual needs.
- Create a safe and supportive environment that fosters growth and development through positive activity-based experiences.
- Communicate with other staff regarding clients' behavioral responses to activities and sports, contributing to the larger treatment team.
Minimum Qualifications for an Activity Therapist:- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Sports Science, Recreational Therapy, Counseling) preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience working with adolescents, particularly those in therapeutic or mental health settings; experience coaching sports or leading group activities preferred.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and mental health challenges.
- Applicants must pass a Level 2 background check as a condition of employment.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Ability to engage adolescents in physical and experiential activities with a therapeutic focus.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends.
