Job Summary: Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Pricing, the Actuary, Pricing - Workers' Compensation will play a critical role in analyzing and developing pricing strategies for workers' compensation insurance products. This position involves utilizing statistical methods and actuarial techniques to evaluate historical claims data, assess risk profiles, and improve pricing models. The actuary collaborates closely with underwriting teams to establish rates in compliance with regulatory standards and Ascot growth goals. Additionally, the role requires ongoing monitoring of pricing models' performance and adapting strategies based on market trends and emerging data. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to stakeholders. Responsibilities:
  • Act as a reliable advisor to Workers Compensation Underwriting and other business partners by analyzing portfolios and suggesting enhancements to support Ascot's goals for growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for all Workers Compensation pricing aspects, including developing analytical tools and implementing pricing adjustments.
  • Monitor rates, run rate level indications, and create the actuarial portion of rate filings.
  • Assess the risk profiles of various industries and occupations to inform pricing strategies and product offerings.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensure that pricing practices comply with state regulations and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors affecting workers' compensation insurance.
  • Assist in building the actuarial infrastructure and capabilities.
Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings to stakeholders
  • 7 years of actuarial experience with at least 4 years of Workers Compensation pricing experience
  • Experience with Workers Compensation filings and working with bureau data
  • ACAS designation with FCAS preferred. Exam support possible
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science or mathematics, or related field
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python. Experience in other coding languages a plus (R, VBA, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret complex data sets
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams, approaching actuarial work as a collaborative product
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in pricing models and reports
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • 10% travel, including travel to our principal Workers Compensation office in Ridgeland, MS
***This position may be filled at a different level, depending on experience*** Compensation Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual cash bonus, long-term incentives, and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.
  • The annualized base pay range for this role is: In New York is: $165,000 - $180,000.
