Adapted Physical Education Instructor A typical day in the life of an Adapted Physical Education (PE) Instructor at Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services includes designing physical activities for students to engage in and instructing classes of 5-6 children at a time. Instruction will incorporate music, sensory exercises, adaptive materials, and themes. The Adapted PE Instructor will have sole responsibility for the gym and access to utilize school playgrounds (weather permitting) and will travel to both Bobbie B. Fairfax and Margaret B. Rost schools throughout the week (ex. alternate working 2 days a week at one location, 3 days at the other.) The Adapted PE Instructor also plans and implements community based instructional activities and outings for the students to practice their recreationally based skills in the community environments.
Job Duties (Summary): - Instructs and develops students with developmental disabilities in physical and motor skills through group and individual activities, sports, and water safety.
- Plans and adapts physical education programs, including Special Olympics events, to fit each student's abilities and developmental needs.
- Prepares and updates Individual Education Plans, writes progress reports, and documents student progress; serves as a consultant on physical development.
- Assists with students' physical and behavioral needs (e.g., feeding, toileting, mobility) and ensures safe student transport.
- Assesses student physical abilities, collaborates with staff and families, and facilitates communication through various methods.
- Maintains necessary certifications, keeps current on field developments, and demonstrates consistent attendance.
Requirements: - Licensed physical educator or special educator in the State of Ohio required; adapted physical education endorsement preferred.
- If not already possessed, obtainment of the adapted physical education endorsement will be required within one year of hire.
- Must be able to pass criminal background checks and various abuser registry checks
