What You Will Do
As the Adaptive Recreation Specialist, you will lead, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and special events for individuals with disabilities. Working under the direction of the Bureau Chief of Recreation, you will coordinate program leaders, volunteers, and instructors, while actively building relationships with stakeholders and community partners. The work you do will support inclusive recreation opportunities.
Essential Duties
* Lead, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and special events for individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Work with Board of Education for use of facilities and permitting space for classes.
* Recruit, train, and evaluate leaders, instructors, and volunteers for Adaptive Recreation programs. Organize and lead team trainings.
* Conduct outreach and actively build relationships with stakeholders and community partners regarding recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Work with all Recreation Councils to provide inclusive services.
* Submit annual operating budget, compile monthly/annual reports, and track expenses. Research and apply for appropriate grants.
* Attend Bureau of Recreation and Recreation Council meetings, department orientation, and training sessions. Assist with special events.
* Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.

Education and Experience
* Associate degree or two years of college
* One or more years of related experience
* A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Licenses
* Valid driver's license
Certifications
* CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification (or must obtain within one month of employment)
Preferred
* Certified Therapeutic Recreation Professional (CTRS)
Additional Information
* Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
* Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Work includes daily physical activity: standing/walking for long hours, lifting, and related activities.
* Occasional exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions.
* Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
