Job Description:

Purpose

With less supervision, to provide responsible, quality clinical treatment to chemically-addicted patients, including more difficult cases, within the guidelines of regulatory agencies and to provide effective supervision to Addiction Counselors/Levels I & II, and to assist administration in a leadership role in the development and improvement of the delivery of quality treatment services to patients and in responding to mandates of regulatory agencies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Performs intake assessments, screens patients and their families for the appropriate admission level of treatment. May make decisions regarding frequency and intensity of treatment during intake and assessment process.

Supervises and provides clinical and treatment direction to subordinate staff.

Participates in interdisciplinary training, staff in-services and acts as preceptor for students, interns, and those meeting field placement requirements.

Reviews and co-signs clinical documentation, including chart notes, treatment plans and treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries.

Conducts and supervises subordinates in group therapy, relapse prevention, cue extinction and education groups for patients and their families.

Provides input for development of policies and procedures of the program.

Assumes team leadership role as assigned.

Trains and conducts overdose prevention training and distributes naloxone rescue kits.

Represents the agency in appropriate community education and outreach activities.

Other tasks as determined by department need and the Director of Chemical Dependency Services.

Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC Health + Hospitals

Minimum Qualifications:

Any individual working in a NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS)-Certified Treatment Program or newly-hired into the System in the title of Addiction Counselor in a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting must have proof of completion of OASAS Supporting Recovery with Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) training.

For Assignment to Level II

1. Valid CASAC - Level 1 Certificate issued by OASAS; and one (1) year of full-time, progressively responsible experience performing SUD assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, case and care management and other functions related to SUD prevention and treatment in a SUD treatment program; or

2. Is otherwise considered a QHP, as described in 2 of Qualification Requirements for Level I above, and has one (1) year of full-time, progressively responsible experience performing SUD assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, case and care management and other functions related to SUD prevention and treatment in a SUD treatment program; or

3. Satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and experience. However, all must have a CASAC Level 1 Certificate issued by OASAS or meet the definition of a QHP as described in 2 above.
