POSITION OVERVIEWWe currently have an opening for a full-time Addictions Counselor opening at our primary Portland location. The Addictions Counselor position provides professional, compassionate treatment for clients with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders enrolled in our Residential Program. The Addictions Counselor works closely with the mental health and outpatient programs to provide integrated care for clients. Duties and responsibilities include: managing a client caseload, assess and triage clients' substance use, mental health and physical needs and make appropriate referrals, treatment plan client needs and find the necessary resources to meet those goals, and provide substance use individual and group counseling.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Candidates must be familiar with strength-based counseling and have knowledge of dual diagnosis, systems of care and motivational interviewingCurrent CADC I is requiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Willing and able to work both as a part of a team as well as independently Proficient in Microsoft applications and able to become proficient in electronic health records systems, Kipu preferredEffective and compassionate verbal, nonverbal and written communication skillsMaintains confidentiality as required by Federal and State laws Strong organizational skills and attention to detailInitiative and problem-solving skillsUnderstands addictive thinking and the addictive personalityUnderstands basic psychopharmacology Can describe warning signs, symptoms, and the course of substance use disordersCan describe how substance use disorders affect families and concerned othersCan describe principles and philosophy of prevention, treatment, and recoveryDemonstrates understanding and application of issues related to self-awareness, diversity, and ethicsEffectively communicates and establishes rapport, incorporates foundational models (e.g., MI, DBT), and gathers data to complete clinical evaluation covering the scope of ASAM dimensions and mental health concernsDemonstrates ability to construct treatment plan with patient, to re-assess the plan and make changes as indicated Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to record treatment plans, session notes and progress of patient in relation to treatment goals and objectives consistent with agency standardsDemonstrates ability to facilitate groupsAble to effectively problem solve and troubleshootUnderstands emergency situations and protocols (safe milieu management)Understands and integrates 12 step recovery principles in interactions with patientsOTHER REQUIREMENTSFor employees with a history of substance use disorder or identifying as a person in recovery, Fora Health requires certification of a minimum of two years' continuous sobriety.Successful completion of pre-employment drug testSuccessful completion of Tuberculin test and/or evaluation with negative results or documented evidence of non-communicabilityDHS criminal background approvalWORKING CONDITIONS This position generally works in an indoor office environment with infrequent travel between sites and/or off-site for meetings and/or trainings, or to special events.Office and team workspace is shared with other clinical team membersPossible exposure to communicable diseases which can encompass a variety of illnesses and infections, including tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, B, and C, and HIV for which personal protective equipment is provided.Possible exposure to upset, angry, severely traumatized, disabled or emotionally disturbed adults, adolescents, and families.HOURS AND PAYThis is a full-time position earning $25.41-34.43 per hour (depending upon experience) working 40 hours per week.
