ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Instructing and evaluating theoretical knowledge, psychomotor skills and affective competencies in the Dental Hygiene program;
* Demonstrate knowledge and skills utilizing an instructional internet platform;
* Demonstrating oral and written communication and teamwork;
* Demonstrate the ability to recognize and respond to the individual differences of student population and a willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
* Flexibility for teaching day and/or evening classes.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
* A minimum of an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene preferred;
* Current Florida licensure and National Board Certification as a Dental Hygienist;
* A minimum of three (3) years' work experience in dental hygiene practice;
* Proven knowledge of contemporary dental /healthcare practices;
* Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
* Teaching experience with diverse populations and recent healthcare industry experience are also preferred;
* Appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborating with faculty and staff in the IRSC programs in Health Science and with other IRSC program areas; Effectively instructing courses in Dental Hygiene; Evaluating student progress through examinations and observations of performance; Actively supporting student success through individual counseling and advising; Maintaining appropriate documentation of related student records;
Maintaining course related equipment and supplies; Participating in department, division, and general faculty meetings; Maintaining own professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs; Adhering to all IRSC policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, and stoop. This position also requires sufficient eyesight to observe patients, manipulate equipment and evaluate procedural results; sufficient hearing to assess patient needs and communicate verbally with students and other health care providers; sufficient verbal and written skills to communicate needs promptly and effectively in English; sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly to the patient's needs, manipulate equipment, lift a minimum of 30 pounds, participate as a team member of four in moving a 150 pound incapacitated patient, and ensure overall patient safety. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
