Position Title:Adjunct, EnglishTime Type:Part timePosition Summary and Qualifications:Saint Joseph's University's Department of English, Writing and Journalism has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of courses each semester. Likely assignments include introductory courses in composition and literature, and on a more limited basis, specialized upper-level or graduate courses.For further information about the Department of English, Writing and Journalism, please visit our website at Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct one or two courses each semester on an as-needed basis. Introductory courses in composition and literature offered each semester include:ENG 101: The Craft of Language.ENG 102: Texts and Contexts.Introductory courses are typically offered during the day, although evening or online courses may be available. Courses may be held on the Hawk Hill or University City campuses depending on departmental need.Knowledge of writing pedagogy and British and American literature is essential to teach these courses.On a more limited basis, specialized courses may be available in areas such as public speaking, creative writing, professional and organizational writing, or in our graduate program in Writing Studies. These courses may be offered during the day or in the evening in on-ground, online, or hybrid formats.Required Materials:To complete your application, please submit a Cover Letter/Letter of Interest, a Resume/Curriculum Vitae, and a Statement of Teaching Philosophy.Minimum Qualifications:A Master's Degree in English or related field.Access to up-to-date technology.Preferred Qualifications:ABD or PhD in Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, or Creative Writing.Previous teaching experience.Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.Facility with hybrid and online modes of instruction.Duties and Responsibilities include:Teaching of a specified course according to Department of English, Writing and Journalism guidelines.Preparation of materials.Providing support and guidance to students.Holding regular office hours.Reporting mid-semester and final grades electronically.Secondary Responsibilities include:Occasional meetings with the Department Chair and other faculty members to discuss pedagogical issues.Cooperation with course coordinators or other program faculty to assure quality and consistency across the program.Saint Joseph's University is a private, Catholic, Jesuit institution and we expect members of our community to be knowledgeable about - and to make a positive contribution to - our mission.
