General purpose: To provide instruction in the Statistics and Analysis I and II course set for students in the Data Analytics and Visualization (DAV) program and to convey knowledge of multiple elements of statistics, data analysis and visualization from a professional industry perspective.
Program Details: Launched in 2012 the M.P.S. in Data Analytics and Visualization is designed to help professionals accelerate their careers with a focus on analyzing complex multivariate data sets and creating compelling visual narratives. The program emphasizes creating meaning through the visual organization of data and interactive designs that help users bore down into facts, figures, and details to gain more and more meaning; meaning that activates enterprises, policy making, and supports scientific discovery.
Summary of Essential Functions:- Holds instructional class session once a week for the duration of the class.
- Collaborate and coordinate with program leadership and faculty.
- Holds office hours once a week for the duration of the class.
- Provides core instruction to satisfy primary learning objectives of course.
- Provides timely feedback on and assessment of student work.
- Works directly with the curriculum team
- The curriculum team establishes program and course learning objectives, standardizes rubrics and syllabi, and assists in structuring course materials on Canvas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- Prepare lesson plans for the duration of the course:
- This may include sourcing supplementary materials from diverse sources, ensuring course materials are relevant, up-to-date, and in alignment with program learning objectives.
- Deliver live lectures for students once a week.
- Maintain consistent communication with students:
- Holding at least one hour of regular office hours every week
- Replying to any student communication within 24 hours
- Evaluate and provide feedback on student work:
- This includes providing timely written and/or audio/video feedback via the LMS (Canvas) and keeping a current gradebook.
- Maintenance of Canvas course current throughout the term:
- Includes updating a syllabus, setting assignments with due dates, publishing class Zoom recordings, providing slide decks and other materials to students in modules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Knowledge of statistics, data analytics, and data visualization tools.
- Topics in these courses include:
- Methods for gathering, organizing, preparing, and analyzing information and data that are central to visualization.
- Data types, data gathering, data cleaning, preparation, organization and exploratory summarizations.
- Descriptive statistical relationships such as range, centrality, histograms, distributions with data and information.
- Probability and statistics concepts commonly used in the visualization process.
- Statistical measures, correlation, regression, and fitting to data sets.
- Applicants should have experience and expertise in all of the above concepts.
- Applicants should be comfortable with using technology in a classroom setting.
- Applicants should be able to demonstrate pedagogical knowledge of their subject area.
- Proficiency in data analytics and visualization programs, specifically R, Tableau, and Excel, is required (Python, Adobe Illustrator, and others may also be helpful).
Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 5 years of related professional experience.
- Proficiency in data analytics and visualization programs including R, Tableau, and Excel.
Preferred qualifications:- Master's degree in a related field.
- 10 years of related professional experience.
- Expert knowledge of data visualization tools such as R, Tableau, and Excel, along with proficiency in Python, D3, Adobe Illustrator, and others.
