Job Description:

The Fashion Merchandising and Management Department at Long Island University Post Campus is seeking part-time lecturers to teach FM 39 Sustainability in Global Fashion and FM 40 Fundamentals of Textiles. The lectures are scheduled at the Brookville, NY campus.

Overall Summary: Responsible for setting up course and course material, teaching, and assurance of learning in connection with coursework assigned. Assisting students succeed in mastering course material.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare and communicate contents of syllabus to students, as a foundation of student-teacher course contract.

2. Make recommendations for required text, as necessary.

3. Teach and review with students materials required for them to meet learning objectives in a manner to ensure learning.

4. Participate in the academic program's learning outcomes assessment activities. Measure students learning outcomes, analyze and report weaknesses in learning and make curricular and/or pedagogical changes to improve learning.

5. Prepare, arrange and assess pedagogical projects, exams, and experiential learning.

6. Be available during faculty office hours to meet with students and address concerns, provide extra help, assist with career goals, help find internships/jobs, etc.

7. Submit required paperwork in a timely manner including but limited to syllabi (must be made available two week prior to start of semester and must be in required LIU format), final grades (must be submitted online within 24 hours after close of semester), marked exams, change of grades, etc.

8. Fulfil in a timely manner, University requests in connection with data collecting for accreditation, data accumulation purposes, and government compliance including but not limited to submitting current CVs, completing AACSB survey (which is distributed at the start of each term that you teach), sexual harassment training and the like.

9. Other duties as assigned within scope of job.

Required:

All adjunct faculty are required to acquire an LIU email address and to use this as the email address on record for students and University personnel use.

Education and/or work experience in the domain of teaching assignment.

From time-to -time, adjunct faculty are required to undergo training to maintain competency in teaching or compliance with government regulations

Adjunct faculty must be prepared to teach in person or online as needed, and to maintain technical know-how in order to fulfill job duties optimally.

Courses:

FM 39 Sustainability in Global Fashion

Seeking an adjunct professor who can provide students an opportunity to acquire a foundational understanding of the scientific, political and social issues related to the design of resilient urban futures. The course will explore Sustainable fashion as it relates to fashion products that are manufactured, marketed and used in the most sustainable manner possible, taking into account

both environmental and socio-economic aspects. In this course, students will also explore the textile industry from the perspective of social sustainability, shifting the focus from the ateriality of textile production to the industry's relationships with the communities from which the product originates.

FM 40 Fundamentals of Textiles

Seeking an adjunct professor to teach the science of textiles including information regarding fabric identification: fabric name, fiber content, yarn construction, count, coloration, finishes, weight, and list of characteristics. Students will learn the inherent performance properties and construction of fibers and yarns which are relevant for professionals in the fashion industry, such as product developers, stylists, buyers, designers, etc. This course brings together a wide variety of information enabling students to spend less time trying to connect the ideas and more time applying the concepts. so they can make appropriate choices in textile selections for a product.

Salary: $1,000 - $1,350 per credit
