Position Description

Job Title: Adjunct Instructor

Classification: Faculty

Division: Academic Affairs

Reports To: Department Chair - Department of Health Sciences

FLSA Status: Part-time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

As a qualified expert in a particular subject area, the adjunct instructor plans and teaches campus-based or online courses based upon an approved syllabus/outline to assure course content and objectives are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Conduct assigned course(s).

* Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on graded assignments;

* Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner and escalate issues and concerns to the Department Chair as necessary.

* Promote student retention by recording absentee information in roster after each class meeting, contacting students who are have established a pattern of absence, and communicating attendance concerns to the Program Chair;

* Design, administer, and grade examinations to assess achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus.

* Record and submit assignment, mid-term and final grades according to specified guidelines.

* Other relevant duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

* Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education, with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in relevant discipline. Doctorate degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

* Three years of teaching or related professional experience.

* Successful college level teaching in any of the following areas:

Fitness/Health Assessment, Health Promotion, Medical

Terminology, Disease Prevention, Nutrition, Drugs, and First

Aid/CPR.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective classroom management techniques and differentiated instructional strategies to maximize student learning;

* Outstanding oral and writing communication, organizational, and facilitation skills;

* Exceptional ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; work independently as well as in a team environment; and make decisions that support the University's mission and goals;

* Possess professional appearance and demeanor to interact effectively with students, staff, and administration;

* Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Applications and student information systems;

* Commitment to professional development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work. Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
