Applicants wishing to remain in this pool past 05/31/2025, must reapply at that time.Position Summary:Candidates are sought to form a hiring pool for potential temporary full/part-time adjunct faculty positions in the College of Performing & Visual Arts School of Art & Design disciplines. Teaching assignments will be at the college level and include lecture, laboratory, applied lessons, studio, or recitation courses.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in one or more of the College of Performing and Visual Arts School of Art & Design disciplines or comparable professional experience.Preferred Qualifications:Master's or Doctoral degree in one or more of the College of Performing and Visual Arts School of Art & Design disciplines. Prefer evidence of outstanding artistry and record of successful college-level teaching experience in the discipline of employment. A commitment to quality instruction at the college level is essential.School of Art and Design Policy forDetermining Qualified Faculty through Tested Experience - Approved by SoADFaculty 4/11/17CPVA IntroductionInaccordance with HLC, UNC Board Policy, and School accrediting bodies, CPVA uses credentials as theprimary basis for determining faculty qualifications.Inthe case that individual programs may deem it necessary and appropriate to usetested experience in determining minimally qualified faculty, CPVA will followthe process developed by theSchools in Spring 2017.Testedexperience is defined as experience the institution determines is equivalentto the degree it would otherwise require for a faculty position (HLC, 2016, p.4).Credentialing / School of Art and DesignNASADrecognizes the Master of Fine Arts as the appropriate terminal degree forstudio faculty. At the same time, the Association recognizes that some highlyqualified artist-teachers may hold other academic degrees; others may not holdany academic degrees. In such cases, the institution should base appointmentson experience, training, and expertise at least equivalent to those requiredfor the Master of Fine Arts degree in the appropriate field. The terminaldegree for Art History is a Ph.D. in the field. The terminal degree for ArtEducation is a Ph.D. or Ed.D. CAA affirms that in some cases,a significant record of professional achievement in areas such as creativeactivity, research, and publication is an indicator of qualifications,productivity, and professional awareness, and may be considered as asignificant credential in lieu of an earned terminal degree. In addition, allfaculty members must be able to communicate their knowledge and insighteffectively to students. Teachersof any studio subject normally are or have been deeply involved as practicingartists or designers in the particular disciplines or specializations they areteaching. Some factors of testedexperience that may be considered relevant include, but are not limited to: Substantialgraduate-level academic coursework and/or methodological training in a discipline appropriate to the field ofinstruction A recordof research, creative activity, scholarship, or achievement appropriate to the field of instruction Related research experience inindustry and/or the private sector Practical experience in theart, business, legal, or political sector Relevant clinical experience Relevant certifications oradditional credentials Demonstrated competency or fluency in arelevant skill or skill setBenefits:Benefitsavailable include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disabilityinsurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirementplans for all full-time positions.
