Job Description:
Nassau Community College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor position in the Communications Department. The successful candidate will:
* Teach courses in the American Sign Language, plan and deliver curriculum in classrooms, laboratories and/or practicums ensuring that students acquire essential skill sets and objectives stated in departmental course outlines.
* Instruction should be meaningful and assessment-based so students may be observed and evaluated.
* Monitor the students' progress, keep grade records and must provide relevant assessment data to the department in a timely manner.
* Use appropriate terminology, and technology to communicate with students and provide academic support.
* Comply with College policies and procedures.
* Maintain a positive and professional learning environment for students.
Requirements:
Master's Degree in a deaf related field such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing or other related fields; AND experience teaching ASL on either a high school or college level.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, faculty teaching ASL 226, Deaf Culture and Community, must have five (5) years direct experience working with or being a member of the Deaf Community. This may include, but is not limited to interpreting, counseling, and teaching.
