Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. The Natural Sciences Department of LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York invites applications for part-time faculty members to teach a one semester non-majors Introduction to Geographic Information Systems course (SCG 150). This lecture meets ONLINE every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 PM - 5:35PM during the Fall II semester (1/2/25 to 2/27/25).
The successful candidate will be required to perform teaching and guidance duties in the area(s) of expertise. This includes teaching lectures; creating, administering and grading of assessments (quizzes, exams, lab reports) and providing student guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS
For Adjunct Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. in GIS, Environmental Science, or related field required. The ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Proficiency in ESRI software, particularly ArcGIS Pro is required
Teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
For Adjunct Lecturer:
Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, or related field required, and Master's degree or enrollment in a biology graduate program preferred.
Proficiency in ESRI software, particularly ArcGIS Pro is required
The ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
COMPENSATION
Adjunct Lecturer: $91.67/hr
Adjunct Assistant Professor: $100/hr
