Reports to: Chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences DepartmentStart Date: January 2025Position Summary: The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Manhattan University seeks outstanding applicants for a part-time Adjunct Professor for the Marriage and Family Therapy Master's Program.This search is open to candidates specializing in all areas of Marriage and Family Therapy with special consideration given to those with expertise in the areas of 1) working with diverse populations 2) social justice, equity and inclusion, and 3) using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field. Candidates will demonstrate a proven commitment to teaching and advising master-level students.We seek faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, to attract and retain a diverse, talented student body. Given an increased focus from New York State on social and emotional learning and mental health programming for students, agencies, and families, the roles of mental health professionals have never been more important. The Counseling and Therapy programs at the University have strong and intimate relationships with the surrounding communities in the Bronx in NYC, Westchester, and New Jersey presenting opportunities for collaborations around teaching, research, and service endeavors.Manhattan University's tree-lined campus is located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, adjacent to Van Cortlandt Park, lower Westchester, and New Jersey. - It is the responsibility of the adjunct instructor to provide content for and teach assigned courses.
- Courses that may be assigned include but are not limited to: Family Therapy & Family Law, Techniques in Counseling & Therapy, Family Therapy Models, and Contemporary Couples Therapy.
- Other classes (electives, special topics, etc.) may also be available to teach depending on the adjunct professor's areas of expertise and the department's needs.
Qualifications:
- Must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent in Marriage and Family Therapy or related area.
- Hold New York State Licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or related license.
- Outstanding clinical training, experience and supervision skills.
