The level of traineeship that you would be hired at is dependent on completed mandatory and elective coursework.NY HELPS: Two years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration OR Certification (e.g., IAAP Certified Administrative Professional) or associate's degree in office administration, secretarial science, administrative assistance, paralegal, business technology, or office technology substitutes for two years of experience.In addition to meeting one of the above requirements, you must also meet the keyboarding requirement. Candidates who are not transferring from a keyboarding title must possess adequate keyboarding skills (i.e., the ability to type 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy) as demonstrated by passing the Keyboarding Performance Test.*If you are eligible for this position by way of the Administrative Assistant traineeship program, your salary will be that of the salary grade of your traineeship level.Duties Description The Provost's Office is seeking applications for a new administrative support team member to serve as office manager, receptionist, and customer-service specialist in the office of the Associate Provosts, providing administrative support services to the associate provosts and several other Academic Affairs leaders, communicating with them effectively, anticipating and solving their problems as needed, and ensuring their administrative support needs are met successfully.Leaders for whom you will provide administrative support as the Administrative Assistant 1 include the Associate Provost for Academic Success, the Associate Provost for Assessment & Curriculum, the Associate Provost for Finance & Administration, and the directors of the Center for Digital Learning, Center for Integrative Learning, Office of Institutional Research, Office of Sponsored Research, Office of Sustainability, Teaching & Learning Center, and the LIVES Program.To be successful in this position, you must have:-Excellent organization, customer service, and communication skills.-Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines.-Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage numerous unanticipated requests.-Successful experience simultaneously supporting multiple leaders.-Proficiency in office tools such as Word, Excel, and the Google suite.Additional Comments For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
