ENTRY LEVEL SALARY - $26,478 per year. ($12.73 per hour.)This position serves primarily as an assistant to the Coordinator of Public Relations & Programming by updating library event lists, print orders, and flyers, and performing other clerical duties, including assistance with social media data collection and posting. This position is stationed inside the Downtown Library computer lab and will assist library patrons with computer and printing needs. This Admin Assistant also works at the Circulation Desk at Downtown Library as assigned. Circ duties include issuing library cards to patrons, checking materials in and out, and providing customer service by answering questions, assisting with inquiries, processing payments, and maintaining accurate patron records.

Addresses general inquiries and effectively refers patrons to appropriate departments or staff members. Works collaboratively with library staff to contribute positively to the work environment. Meticulous in maintaining accurate records and handling special loans.
- Effective Communication Skills: Capable of assisting patrons in the computer lab and notifying patrons about holds, overdue items, or damaged materials with strong verbal and written skills. Serves as a backup for the Coordinator of PR and Programming at COA Orientation, so public speaking skills are preferred.
- Organizational Ability: Efficiently manages multiple tasks such as creating promotional materials and handling patron requests. Accurately sorts and shelves library materials.
- Strong Clerical Abilities: Strong attention to detail for updating promotional materials and event lists. Able to prepare statistical reports, submit time sheets, and complete administrative forms.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Promptly reports maintenance issues and quickly adapts to new situations.
- Knowledge of Library Operations: Understands circulation policies, loan periods, renewals, holds, fines, and the interlibrary loan processes. Familiar with library management systems for data entry, issuing cards to patrons, and materials processing.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient in using computers, telephones, credit card terminals, and standard office equipment. Able to handle non-automated circulation statistics.
- Cash Handling Skills: Experienced in processing payments, making change, issuing receipts for fines and fees, and handling credit card transactions. Capable of preparing cash reports.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from a standard high school or an equivalency degree such as a GED is required. At least one year of prior customer service experience is required. Graphic design skills and one year of clerical experience are preferred. Must be able to utilize independent judgment and maintain accuracy. Must be able to spell, alphabetize, and use correct grammar.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position requires some evening and some weekend work (one night per week, alternating Fridays and Saturdays, and one Sunday every four weeks). Additional weekend hours required several times each year for book sales and outreach events. Full performance of duties requires physical stamina including the ability to stand for considerable periods of time, lift and carry stacks of books weighing up to 20 pounds, and push loaded book trucks for short distances - all of which require agility in stooping, lifting, and bending.
