The Florida Commission on Offender Review, formally known as the Florida Parole Commission, is looking to fill an ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II-SES position in its Office of the General Counsel. The position is located in the Commission's Central Office, in Tallahassee. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing legal support to all Commission attorneys, including its General Counsel. The incumbent in this position will be the lead member of the Office of the General Counsel's Public Records Unit.

The Commission functions as a quasi-judicial decision-making body, responsible for the careful selection of candidates appropriate for release from incarceration to parole, and administers parole, conditional release supervision, conditional medical release supervision, control release supervision, and addiction recovery release supervision. The Commission acts as the administrative and investigative arm of the Governor and Cabinet, sitting as the Board of Executive Clemency.

This position is classified as a full-time Selected Exempt Service position and works under the supervision of the General Counsel. The starting salary is $33,760.00.

Position Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting the General Counsel and all Commission attorneys regarding administrative tasks associated with attorney duties and responsibilities, including assembling exhibits and appendices to comply with court rules and timely filing with attorney-generated pleadings with courts, quasi-judicial entities, and other administrative bodies.

The incumbent in this position independently composes correspondence of a complex nature following a review of all pertinent materials in response to inmates, public officials, law enforcement entities, and the general public. Generating this correspondence requires knowledge of the relevant Florida statutes and Commission rules, including public records and Government in the Sunshine law.

The incumbent in this position reviews on a day-to-day basis all Office of the General Counsel materials originating both from outside and within the Commission and assembles such material on a priority basis for the attention of the General Counsel and all Commission attorneys.

The incumbent in this position answers, handles, and screens telephone calls, bringing, as necessary, calls to the attention of appropriate personnel promptly and with clarity, acknowledges and assists visitors, and performs general related duties as required, including making travel arrangements for the General Counsel and all Commission attorneys, and preparation and submission of expense vouchers.

The incumbent in this position performs special assignments including the running of administrative and operations reports, provides support to the Office Operations Consultant I position in the Office of the General Counsel with processing public records requests, maintains working knowledge of various software programs and databases available to Commission employees for use in responding to correspondence, preparing reports, and assisting the General Counsel and Commission attorneys, and maintains and updates attorney and litigation calendars and the internal case tracking system.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years work experience in the criminal justice or legal field, or two years combination of work experience and education in the criminal justice or legal field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with experience or knowledge of state public records law and federal confidentiality statutes.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: It is the policy of the Florida Commission on Offender Review that any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and, if applicable, Chapter 408, F.S.
