Job Type Full-timeDescriptionGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES This position provides administrative assistance for Public Works employees and citizens. Position performs detailed financial work for the department including annual budget, purchasing, grants, accounts payable and tracks department revenueESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for independently performing required job assignments following set procedures and policies; direction comes from the Public Works Director who assigns and reviews work.
  • Performs technical and administrative accounting for the department budget in compliance with County finance policies and procedures.
  • Processes weekly accounting functions including accounts payable/receivable including processing of invoices for payment after verification of goods and services received.
  • Provides monthly financial reports and quarterly projections for the Director.
  • Participates in annual budget, financial planning, and long-range projections for the Public Works Department.
  • May perform quality reviews of specified contract and grant financial accounting reports to ensure compliance with the funding agency's reporting rules, regulations, and timelines.
  • Reviews, collects fees, and issues driveway/grading/public improvement/over lot grading permits.
  • Responsible for Pub Works program including daily data input of employee hours, equipment uses and materials used by area or project to assure accurate job cost records;
  • Generates numerous reports from Pub Works program enabling the Road and Bridge Superintendent to tract costs and type of work accomplished within the County.
  • Tracks maintenance and billing on fleet vehicles.
  • Receives road calls/complaints and documents in Pub Works system for assignment to appropriate staff for response.
  • Greets citizen and vendor inquiries via phone or walk-in.
  • Prepares annual State HUFT report including updating road plats and any changes to existing road surfaces.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.

  • Ability to understand and perform detailed financial transactions with accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, and listening.
  • Must be self-motivated and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible with changing work assignments.
  • Ability to perform routine computer functions and learn new applications as necessary.
  • Ability to complete work accurately and timely with attention to detail.
  • Must be a team player and support a teamwork environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus five years of office/customer service experience with finance/accounting preferred
  • Ability to accurately prepare and analyze financial data
  • Professional customer service even under demanding circumstances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Diplomacy, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to multitask and switch gears quickly without becoming inefficient.
  • Must be highly adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, elected officials/boards, and other departments/agencies.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.
