Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant position in the School of Business, Technology and Trades. This position provides clerical support to the School of Business, Technology and Trades. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, scheduling of classes, preparing textbook orders from database files; maintaining confidential records; independently answering questions concerning academic and college policies, regulations, programs; composing correspondence; typing correspondence, forms, minutes from meetings; audits course substitutions; runs advisement transcripts; and carries out a number of office functions to provide and maintain a professional work environment for all Accounting, Administrative Management Technology, Health Information Management, Business, Culinary, programs.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of office procedures, principles and practices necessary to operate efficiently. Excellent skills in computer and related software and office equipment; excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently in prioritizing job functions and completion of same by deadlines; strong ability to analyze data and situations and resolve same by exercising independent judgment and professional demeanor.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of community college administrative functions preferred.
