Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant position in the Academic and Workforce Solutions Office. This position provides administrative leadership and managerial support for the Vice President of Academic and Workforce Solutions, the Coordinator of Dual Enrollment, and the Vice President of Student Affairs. Assists work units within these areas in securing and managing their daily operations (academics, facilities, personnel, equipment, etc.), Student Information System (SIS) functions, and assessment support. Serves as a communication and resource center to ensure that information is communicated in a timely and effective manner both on and off campus. The position will primarily be focused within the Office of Dual Enrollment to include but not limited to class scheduling, enrolling dual students, and managing dual enrollment processes, but will provide customer service to the Vice Presidents of Academic and Workforce Solutions and Student Affairs.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Experience providing administrative support for a manager(s) that is responsible for multiple departments and diverse activities. Excellent customer service and organizations skills are required with the ability to multi-task. Thorough knowledge gained through experience in office practices, procedures, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Advanced knowledge and skill in using a computer with word processing, database student information system, spreadsheet, office communication, and the Internet. Demonstrated ability to manage office activities and administrative work with minimal supervision. Ability to collect, organize, and effectively report both quantitative and qualitative data. Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures.
