Overview of the Malden Public Schools: The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Malden's student body comprises approximately 6,800 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. We have 1 early learning center, 5 K-8 schools, and 1 high school. - Greet people to the Welcome Center.
- Communicate effectively with caregivers, students, and school staff in the languages listed above.
- Translate for caregivers to facilitate student enrollment in the district
- Translate for personnel during the registration process and the transitions to schools.
- Access daily the Welcome Center ONLINE registration system to welcome students and caregivers in the district
- Set appointments, electronically, by phone, or through the ONLINE registration system, with caregivers to provide individualized support to enroll student in the district
- Provide information about the schools and the community to support families.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in Reading, Writing, and Speaking in:
- English,
- Portuguese,
- Spanish,
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to create and maintain strong community collaborations
- Knowledge of Malden Public Schools and the City of Malden to support new families through transitions.
- Ability to employ tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment in dealing with sensitive issues and challenging situations
- Proficient in the Microsoft and Google Office Suite
- Knowledge of the required paperwork and ONLINE registration systems necessary for placement and parent/guardian notifications to meet federal, state, and district guidelines and policies.
- Participates in up to 2 professional development days as directed by the district to improve skills and gain knowledge about family engagement research and best practice.
- Ability to leverage, and when needed learn, technology and software applications to access the online Welcome Center reports and maintain records.
- Willingness to learn and apply new skills and content
- Deep knowledge and understanding of, and demonstrated ability to connect with the ethnic and linguistic background of students and caregivers served.
- Strong organizational skills
