The Administrative Coordinator for Peri-Operative Technical Programs functions under the supervision of the Peri-Operative Services Education, Training, and Special Projects Manager and Peri-Operative Services Leadership to design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical programs, education, and training for various technical staff programs that include Surgical Technology trainees and Registered Nurse scrub trainees. In addition, they work with supervisory leaders for Surgical Support Technicians, endoscopy technicians within the Operating Room, and other surgical technical staff leaders to coordinate trainee experiences and clinical rotations. The Administrative Coordinator assigns students to clinical sites, maintains training records, and evaluates trainees' clinical performance. In addition, they serve as the point of contact for the clinical sites as well as regional programs and schools. The Administrative Coordinator teaches in the classroom, in the surgical technology laboratory, and actively participates in UVA Health and operating room activities.
Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge as demonstrated by yearly competencies, completion of required continuing education (CE) credits, certifications, and licensure.
Organizes clinical rotations and schedules trainees for clinical rotations.
Ensures documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence.
Collects, maintains, and evaluates clinical case spreadsheets for each clinical program trainee, per Association of Surgical Technologists' (AST) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) requirements. These must be maintained for each student to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA) certification exam or the Tech in Surgery (TS-C) at the completion of applicable program.
Works with area Leadership and UVA Health Earn While You Learn (EWYL) Program Leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate applicable technical programs within Peri-Operative Services.
Serves as point of contact for clinical agencies.
Provides administration, organization, and may provide supervision of trainee clinical experience.
Performs site visits at clinical locations, where applicable, and periodically evaluates trainees' clinical performance with preceptor feedback in partnership with area management/supervisor where applicable.
Provides continuous quality review and improvement of trainee clinical experience.
Provides academic oversight and input into curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience.
Teaches courses and evaluates student performance as per guidelines set by the department as well as state and federal accreditation bodies.
Establishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environment.
Maintains student attendance records, competency files, and other records according to department and state guidelines and submits them in a timely manner.
Maintains office hours according to contractual guidelines in order to support trainee learning and development.
Advises trainees concerning academic, career, and related issues according to contractual guidelines.
Assists department with new hire and trainee recruitment, enrollment, and placement.
Assists department with employee and trainee retention and completion initiatives.
Assists with development, review, and revision of program curriculum, including assessment of student learning and program review.
Develops innovative teaching pedagogy to facilitate learning.
Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design.
Attends department meetings as a contributing member.
Contributes to the Peri-Operative Services values and professional governance through department committees.
Works well independently and in a team setting.
Demonstrates excellent time management skills, and prioritizes workflow.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Perioperative leadership.
Position Compensation Range: $25.72 - $41.15 Hourly
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
**Education:** Associate's degree in Surgical Technology, Health Education, Nursing, or Business Administration or related field required. _Completion of bachelor's degree in healthcare or education-related field recommended within five years of hire._
**Experience:** 3 years experience in the operating room scrub role and/or as an instructor in surgical technology within the past five years.
**Licensure:** NBSTSA certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs; ability to travel to clinical sites.
