Job Description:

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Bureau of Building Maintenance, with wide latitude to exercise independent judgment, functions as the Administrative Engineer of the Bureau of Building Maintenance.

The Administrative Engineer will play a vital role in developing a plan for creating a comprehensive program of servicing and maintaining Marine Transfer Stations (MTS) and all other DSNY sites, locations, and facilities. The Administrative Engineer will also be tasked with contract administration activities within the unit. Main responsibilities include directing, supervising, and assigning projects to their staff within the division and consultants involved in all phases, including requests for proposals, planning, scope development, change orders, design construction management facilities and related services.

The Administrative Engineer will be involved with highly complex investigations and comprehensive inspections of the MTS facilities and other DSNY locations. They will oversee the development of best practices, quality assurance methods, standards, direct analysis, and in-depth studies to ensure the integrity of the infrastructure and appurtenances for MTS and other DSNY locations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.

2. Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

Preferred Skills

1. Extensive knowledge of Construction and Project Management in an Engineering Environment 2. Familiarity with Comptroller's Directives and procedures 3. Excellent communication and staff management skills

Residency Requirement

New York City Residency is not required for this position.
