Why does the job exist?This position will be responsible for providing a wide range of administrative and office support services to enable staff to fulfill the the Ground Water Quality Bureau's (GWQB) mission. The GWQB of the New Mexico Environment Department protects New Mexico's ground water resources as mandated by the NM Water Quality Act and NM Ground and Surface Water Protection Regulations. The Bureau achieves this objective through the issuance of permits to control the discharge of water pollutants into the environment and the identification, investigation, and remediation of contaminated ground water and soil to protect human health and the environment. How does it get done?- Procure office and field supplies- Perform and process mass mailings and e-mails of GWQB permitting sections- Maintain site filing system- Set up and submit notices for permitees regarding discharge permit plans- Assist supervisors with on-boarding of new technical staff- Manage outgoing and incoming mail- Prepare fee payments for deposit in accordance with NMED procedures- Answer the Bureau's main phone line and direct calls to staff as appropriate Who are the customers?- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment - Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations - Internal staff Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for this position will have experience in the following: - Possessing strong organizational skills- Providing effective and professional customer service - Using excellent communication skills (verbal and written)- Having the ability to work with multiple clients and concurrent tasks- Meeting deadlines- Having a notary public certification or the ability to obtain one- Desiring to contribute to team success- Working with Microsoft Office suite (including MS Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Minimum QualificationHigh School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of related experience in office administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience. Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course certification. Working ConditionsWork is in an office setting, with extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal. Lifting of items weighing 25 lbs. or less.
