Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for specialized administrative and technical support services.

MAJOR DUTIES:

1. Conduct documented weekly sanitation inspections of the Kennesaw Police Department (KPD) Holding Facility.

2. Conduct a documented weekly security inspection, including searching for weapons and contraband, of the KPD Holding Facility.

3. Conduct a documented weekly visual inspection and a semiannual documented testing of fire equipment in the KPD Holding Facility.

4. Conduct daily visual inspections; and documented testing of the automatic fire detection devices and alarm systems in the KPD Holding Facility as required by local fire code.

5. Document all incidents that threaten the KPD Holding Facility or any person therein.

6. Processing / Maintain Booking and Release records into the Records Management System.

a. Collect booking and release data.

7. Maintain Inventory Control of all Kennesaw Inmates.

8. Process Failure to Appear cases during business hours.

9. Working City Court

a. Complete court list and calculate times for City Court.

b. Process any arrests that occur as a result of court.

c. Providing security for any individuals that are taken into custody during court

d. Assist with First Appearance hearings held at Detention Center.

e. Assist with in custody City Court hearings held at Detention Center.

10. Assist Kennesaw City Court Services collecting bond moneys.

11. Conduct prisoner transports and complete booking process.

12. Maintain Community Service Records.

13. Conduct Citizen fingerprints/Criminal fingerprinting for Records.

14. Administer Citizen and employee photographs.

15. Assist the Police Department Quartermaster.

16. Perform any other duty as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

o Knowledge of law enforcement and corrections processes, including bonding procedures.

o Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and city and department policies and procedures.

o Knowledge of first-aid, CPR techniques, and Fire Suppression operations.

o Knowledge of drug interaction precautions when administering medications.

o Skill in record-keeping.

o Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.

o Skill in the use of physical restraint methods and equipment.

o Skill in using a computer.

o Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Support Services Lieutenant will assigns work in terms of general instructions and will spot-check completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. Individuals working evening hours will be assigned to the Night Watch Lieutenant and their Sergeants.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include department policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties in providing specialized administrative and technical support services for the department.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to maintain the administrative operations of the holding cells. Successful performance helps ensure the safety of the community and the efficient operation of the holding cells.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, inmates, attorneys, visitors, clergy, other law enforcement personnel, various court personnel, and the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to exchange information and provide services.
